What is Capoeira?
Capoeira is a martial art that originated in Brazil during the 16th century. It combines elements of dance, acrobatics, music, and self-defense techniques. Capoeira was created by African slaves who were brought to Brazil by the Portuguese colonizers. They developed capoeira as a way to practice self-defense while disguised as a dance, since slave owners prohibited them from practicing martial arts.
Capoeira is characterized by fluid and rhythmic movements, often accompanied by music played on traditional instruments such as the berimbau, pandeiro, and atabaque. It is also known for its acrobatic moves, such as cartwheels, flips, and kicks.
